CBT

CBT is an evidence-based treatment that is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidelines for a variety of disorders.

CBT focuses on understanding the links between our thoughts, feelings, behaviours and physical symptoms. During therapy you will start to understand the vicious cycles that are maintaining your difficulties and learn techniques to break free of those patterns. CBT can also help you to understand how past events have impacted on your belief system and update it with more helpful information. An essential element of CBT is practising interventions between sessions so that you can use them yourself in day to day life.

In addition to CBT training, I have also completed CPD training in Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) which I integrate into CBT therapy.

EMDR

EMDR uses your body’s natural processing mechanism of rapid eye movements, like those during dream sleep, to process information. Sometimes a traumatic event or series of events can overload our natural coping mechanism and can leave information unprocessed. These unprocessed memories can be triggered when experiencing similar situations to that of the memory. Eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, for example tapping, facilitates accessing and processing these unprocessed memories.

What psychotherapy can help with?

Both CBT and EMDR are well researched and have been proven to be effective in treating;

  • Low mood/Depression
  • Low self esteem
  • Stress
  • Panic attacks/Panic disorder
  • Specific phobias including vomit phobia
  • Excessive worry (Generalised Anxiety Disorder)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Health anxiety
  • Social anxiety
  • Disordered Eating

Location

I work from clinic rooms based in West Malling in Kent. West Malling has good transport links including a train station which is 5 minute walk from the clinic as well as regular buses. It is conveniently accessible for those in the surrounding areas of Kings Hill, Leybourne, Larkfield, East Malling, Aylesford, Borough Green, Sevenoaks, Maidstone and Medway. Please note that the clinic room is upstairs and unfortunately does not have disabled access.

I also offer online sessions via video call.

What to Expect ?

All therapy sessions are 55 minutes in length and sessions are offered weekly. Weekly sessions are recommended so that momentum of change is not lost during long gaps or pauses in therapy.

The first session will be an assessment in which I’ll ask you about your current problems, how they have developed and what goals you would like to achieve.

In the second session. We will work together to start mapping out the factors that are maintaining your problems and agree a plan for therapy based on your goals.
